The Heat is ON!
Day 21 - Day 25
Heading to Karijini.
We stayed at Beasley River Free camp, it was a small camp, people usually just stop for lunch breaks and so on. It was a bit windy when we stopped so I made some sandwiches for the kiddies and Clint. Once the sun hit the bread it turned it into toast. After Lunch we went for a walk, all the people that stopped for lunch had gone so it was just us and the kids could be as loud as they wanted. We walked up a rocky track and found the dry rocky river bed with not a drop of water so clint decided he would move the van and park it in the empty river. It was a good spot more rocks than red dirt and the kids just roamed around finding rocks and hiding in ditches whilst listening to Michael Jackson. We had a lovely dinner of prawns again and then toasted marshmallows.
we got up at 5.30 to get to karijini and we stopped to get petrol in Parabudoo. We had filled the cruiser with the Jerry can as the last roadhouse was rather expensive per litre, so we had enough fuel to get us too Parabudoo as we were tipped off that they had cheaper fuel. We were tipped off correctly and it was a Coles Express and I had still been collecting the fuel coupons. After the fuel stop we headed into Tom price to collect mail and make a few phone calls, only one thing no 3 connection here, so we had to buy a telstra phone to make calls and you cant even put coins in the telephone boxes now!! You have to buy a phone card...what the??? Funny that you have to travel around australia to get with the times. We decided to check in at Tom Price Tourist Park so that we could do some washing and get to Karijini a bit more relaxed. Tom Price was a nice place the caravan park was very neat and cheap. I was most excited to do the washing after a few days in the red dirt, I did hug the washing machine...Sad I know.
There was some interesting sights to see in Tom Price, we were really interested in seeing the mines but its too difficult with Isla as she manages for awhile then gets bored or tired whichever come first. So we really just hung around the park went to the pool for a swim and catch up with the Scrabble!!
Time to leave Tom Price really nice place and the town is so Tidy and the weather was good too.
We met some travellers who had young kids, they were travelling in a campervan. They had just been to Karijini and told us about the Dingoes there. They had left the back door of their car open and a dingo had got in a stolen their BBQ meat!! That gave us a really nice feel about going to Karijini. So we both decided that the cherubs needed a pep talk before we got there so they didnt think dingoes were just your normal house dog. Isla thought we were saying Bingo though so I dont think she quite understood.
It kinda made us feel a bit nervous about going there and when we entered the national park we both a funny feeling in our stomaches.
It wasnt busy at the campsite and we were allocated a really nice spot in Kangaroo Loop. The ranger was in the office with the campsite hosts when we arrived and the hosts told us to take some bread down to fern pool for the fish but she said not to tell the Ranger (he was standing beside her) Really nice people having a joke and laugh with Clint the ranger also told Clint to put Bread in the babies mouth for the Dingo and Clint says 'why do they take the baby or the bread' All jokes and just a bit of fun. We were waiting to see these Dingo's but they were a NO SHOW.
It was nice and warm in Karijini, just beautiful and the scenery with all the ranges was spectacular.
We headed to fern pool for a swim. Karijini has different Classes with the walks around the Gorges so it helps people before hand on their choice of walks. The classes range from 1 - 6 with 6 being extreme where you need hiking gear. Fern pool was a class 3 which was ok for kids just a few steps, moderate fitness!! Going down was a piece of cake even for the kids, going up I was asking Shelby to wait for mummy please!!! Still...the scenery was awesome.
When you look from the road you would never think there would be a massive gorge with waterfalls and pools amongst it. Really worth the look. The kids were excited about going for a swim, it wasnt the pool I expected I thought it might be a little shallower but not even Clint could reach the bottom. Didnt bother the kids they just put their floaties on and jumped straight in. We put the bread in between our toes, Im such a liar, Clint put the bread in between his toes, I took the bread out when I saw the size of some of the fishies. They almost jump out of the water to eat the bread...cool!! There was a waterfall in the pool too which was nice.
